Maryland Leads the Way in Land Conservation

Chesapeake Conservancy, in partnership with conservation organizations across Maryland, celebrates a major milestone as the state surpasses its 30% land conservation goal for 2030—six years ahead of schedule. This success results from strong collaboration among government agencies, conservation groups and local communities. As of February 2024, over 1.85 million acres haveb een conserved statewide with 30.21% of Maryland’s portion of the Chesapeake Bay watershed now protected. Chesapeake Conservancy advocates every year for Program Open Space, which is the state’s key funding mechanism for land conservation.
