Advancing Chesapeake National Recreation Area Act (S. 1408)

The Chesapeake National Recreation Area (CNRA) proposal, introduced by Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), seeks to unite parks and public lands along the Chesapeake Bay under the National Park SOn April 10, 2025, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen and U.S. Senators Mark Warner (D-Va.), Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and Angela Alsobrooks (D-Md.) reintroduced the Chesapeake National Recreation Area (CNRA) Act in the 119th Congress. This initiative preserves natural and cultural resources, enhances public access and promotes Bay stewardship.

On December 18, 2024, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed the Chesapeake National Recreation Area Act (S. 2620). However, the U.S. House of Representatives did not pass the bill before leaving for the holidays as the 118th Congress came to an end.
