Chesapeake Conservancy accomplished another victory for Nanticoke River conservation in late July with the purchase of the Porter-Burtelle property to protect 178 acres in Delaware and Maryland. Chesapeake Conservancy purchased the land with funding assistance from the Mt.Cuba Center. The property includes 155 acres of upland forest, 8 acres of floodplain/swamp forest, 8 acres of old field, 6 acres of tidal creek, 1.36 miles of Wright Creek shoreline and 830 linear feet of Nanticoke River shoreline. Since 2016, Chesapeake Conservancy has permanently protected 25 parcels of land totaling 3,485 acres in the Nanticoke River watershed.
